For those who have never been or never heard of it, the Notarial Archives in St Christopher Street Valletta houses very important manuscripts and notarial documents, dating from as far back as the 15th century.
The archives is under staffed and under valued, and many of the preservation projects undertaken have been the work of dedicated volunteers.
Recently we have discovered the beginnings of a bookworm infestation, which needs to be tackled as soon as possible to stop the situation from deteriorating any further.
The project will begin this summer and will involve checking the volumes for infestation, recording what was found, relocating some of the older volumes to a more suitable location within the archives, and identifying those volumes which will need disinfestation.
I will be heading the project, working with small groups of volunteers spread across the week. We will be working half days only, and not on weekends, so if you think you can spare one or two half days a week, even for a couple of weeks, please lend us a hand!
The collection is huge, with over 12,000 volumes, and we need all the help we can get!
The exact dates will be posted later on.
