Dr Chris Said receives MaLIA Council representatives for discussions
The MaLIA Council representatives have met with Dr Chris Said, Parliamentary Secretary for Public Dialogue and Information to discuss issues concerning the administration of the public libraries by the local councils. During the meeting, Dr Said emphasised the importance of having good public libraries. The MaLIA representatives discussed the report on the ‘Policy for Local Governance’ and how libraries will fit in within this policy. Dr Said informed MaLIA about positive steps that have been implemented or are about to be implemented such as an increase in the amount of funding for the libraries run by the Councils. Dr Said confirmed that the allocated funds will be available exclusively for libraries. Other issues such as the importance of training for persons working in public libraries were discussed and MaLIA is planning a new short course during next autumn. The MaLIA delegation was made up of Laurence Zerafa (Chairperson), Joe Grima (Deputy Chairperson) and Claudio Laferla (Secretary). 13.06.2009
