MaLIA meets with Minister's appointee on issues concerning libraries and archives

During the month of May, MaLIA has met with Mr Charles Caruana Carabez to discuss issues concerning libraries in Malta and Gozo. Mr Caruana Carabez has been appointed by the Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport to liaise with MaLIA on issues concerning libraries and archives in Malta and Gozo.

The meeting was cordial and future steps in the right direction were discussed.  Mr Caruana Carabez confirmed his committment to improve the situation in local libraries and will seek to drive forward the major issues discussed, namely that of the impeding Libraries Act and the recognition of the library and information professionals.  During this meeting, MaLIA was represented by Laurence Zerafa (Chairman), Joe Grima (Deputy Chairman) and Claudio Laferla (Secretary).

Further meetings are planned to follow up on the issues discussed and also discuss new topics.
