Book acquisitions by public libraries down by 83%
An article in Il-Kullhadd (26 October 2008) claims that expenditure on books by public libraries had gone down by 83% between 2004 and 2008. The article, written by Owen Galea, refers to statistics tabled in parliament following a PQ by the Hon. Jesmond Mugliett. The journalist refers to the reply of the Minister responsible for libraries, the Hon. Dolores Cristina, that indicated that whilst 4,290 books were acquired in 2004 by public libraries, only 713 books have been acquired in the first nine months of 2008.
