Malta Historical Society concerned about accessibility to historical research

In a statement signed by its president, Professor Mario Buhagiar, the Malta Historical Society has drawn the attention of the Minister of Education, Dr Louis Galea, to two issues of concern to historical research in Malta.

The first issue relates to the official reports of the British Parliament of which the National Library in Valletta has one of the richest collections outside the United Kingdom. These reports, traditionally known as the Hansard Reports had been removed to storage a few years ago, thereby depriving researchers of Malta's British history of a very important tool.

The society also voiced its concern on school logbooks and related archival material that, until recently, were kept by headteachers as a day-by-day logbook of their school activities and associated matters.
