About MaLIA
The Malta Library and Information Association (MaLIA)
has been in existence for nearly 40 years. Set up in 1969, it became an
affiliated member of the International Federation of Library
Associations (IFLA) a few months later. It is also one of the founder
members of COMLA, the Commonwealth Library Association, which was
launched in 1972.
MaLIA has been active in the education of library and
information workers and users, it has published monographs and other
material on a regular basis, has forged beneficial links with
international library associations, and it has consistently striven to
gain for libraries and library professionals the recognition and status
they deserve.
Aims
- to create a meeting ground for people engaged or interested in the library and information profession
- to work towards the improvement of librarians' status, salary and qualifications
- to advise regarding legislation affecting libraries and archives and to promote such legislation
- to encourage the establishment, promotion and use of libraries and archives in the Maltese Islands
- to organise courses in library, information and archival studies
Membership is open to anyone involved in library and archive work, whatever their capacity.
